The 22-18
The ’22-18′ is one of only a few main machines. Measuring 55 meters long, it is constantly at work for our dairy and industrial outlets. Simply speaking, the 22-18 unwinds a roll of aluminium, applies a lacquer to the aluminium, dries the lacquer and rewinds the roll. This is all done under the watchful eye of operators who know the machine like the back of their hands. Every order requires an end product with different properties.
Making lacquered aluminium
Using the order card, the operator loads the recipe. The aluminium on the master roll is pulled through the machine at a speed of 100 to 200 meters per minute. Then, the lacquering station lacquers the aluminium according to specifications, and it’s dried by four huge dryers. This process takes place at a temperature of 250°C so that the lacquer hardens properly. Next, the coated aluminium cools down via a route under the floor. If necessary, another coat follows, after which the aluminium enters the next drying line.
Monitoring quality and process
Along the way, various measurements are taken, and the results are displayed on screens. That’s how we monitor quality and the process. Our operators are an essential part of this. They perform tests and trials, keep an eye on whether or not the roll shifts, and ensure that everything is and stays clean. The operators also supervise the process, intercept any errors, and solve them properly and structurally.
Continuous development
Working on the 22-18 is far from boring. The operator must always be alert. Plus, we are constantly improving our process and our products, as well as developing new products for new markets. The 22-18, therefore, receives new modifications regularly. That requires operators with an open mind. They often tell us: ‘I learn every time’. And, that’s exactly what we want to hear and what we want to be as a company – continuously developing.
